What it is
Delta sleep-inducing peptide is a nonapeptide first isolated from rabbit cerebral venous blood during induced sleep in the 1970s. It is found in the brain, pituitary and peripheral tissues.
Mechanism
DSIP modulates slow-wave (delta) sleep in animal models and interacts with GABAergic, glutamatergic and opioid systems. It also shows stress-protective and antioxidant activity, and influences the release of ACTH, LH and GH. Its exact receptor has not been identified.
