What it is
KPV is the C-terminal tripeptide (Lys-Pro-Val) of α-MSH. It retains the anti-inflammatory activity of the parent hormone without any pigmentation or hormonal effect.
Mechanism
KPV inhibits NF-κB activation and the release of pro-inflammatory cytokines in epithelial and immune cells. It is taken up into cells via the PepT1 transporter, which is highly expressed in the intestine, the basis for its study in colitis models. It also shows antimicrobial activity in vitro.
